10 Times Final Fantasy 7 Remake Made Our Jaw Drop

6. Barret’s Grief

FF7 Remake Vista
Square-Enix

The destruction of Sector 7 is another shocking moment to add to the pile during FF7, but the remake followed it up with what was arguably an even more impactful scene. With modern graphics and the inclusion of voice acting, FF7 Remake was able to tell this story with much more emotional weight.

Barret’s reaction to the plate falling is by the far the most emotionally charged scene in the game. Voice actor John Eric Bentley does a wonderful job of portraying his character’s grief and anguish, and the delivery of the lines cut deep every single time.

It's another moment we all knew was coming, but the execution was beyond anything that could have been expected. It's impossible not to feel a little choked up as this immovable chunk of muscle despairs at the loss of his companions and his adopted daughter.

It’s a severe low point for the party and the aftermath of that iconic scene is harrowing, even if you have played the original. It's just one of the many reasons why this remake is exceptional in its own right.
