10 Times Video Games Freaked Us Out With Fake Glitches And Cheeky Tricks

8. Karateka - Joke Ending

Released in 1984, Karateka has to be one of the earliest examples of a game developer messing with players with an hilarious fake ending. Many gamers fell victim to this mean trick and had to replay the entire game all over again to get the true ending.

After battling your way past countless guards and enemies in your quest to save the Princess Mariko, you finally reach the last room of the castle to reunite with your love. However, if you stay in your combat pose while approaching Mariko, she'll get offended.

Instead of offering a tender embrace, the Princess delivers a swift kick to the head of the hero, knocking him out in a single blow. Frankly, if she's that tough, why was she being held prisoner all this time? Either way, if you ever want to see the true ending of Karateka, be sure not to approach Mariko in your fighting stance.
