2. Sonic The Hedgehog (2006)

There's perhaps no hit franchise more maddening in its inconsistency than Sonic the Hedgehog, though 2006's new Sonic game, simply entitled Sonic the Hedgehog, was envisioned by Sega as a table-clearing reboot set to restore the platforming icon's "good" name to fans.

Sonic 2006 was the IP's first outing on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and many fans were consequently lured in by the game's shiny new rendition of its title character, while pre-release press previews were also positive, suggesting a possible comeback for the hero.

But as it turned out, the game wasn't merely another passably mediocre Sonic offering, but genuinely one of the worst games ever made starring the character.

The awkward camera and controls, excessive loading times, boring levels, and overabundance of glitches were all heavily criticised by reviewers, not to mention the fact that too much of a focus was placed on Sonic's teammates, and then there's that intensely awkward scene where an unconscious Sonic gets kissed by a human woman.

When it comes to Sonic games, there is only one sane thing for fans to do. Wait. For. Reviews.
