10 Times You Secretly Made The Game Harder (And Didn't Even Realize)
9. Mole Rat Disease - Fallout 4

Most debuffs in Fallout 4 are easy to remove and the game lets you know when you're affected, so that you can get rid of them before they become a problem.
Unfortunately, there is one exception to this rule. A disease that not only does the game not mention to you but is also incredibly difficult to remove once you carry it.
In the quest "Hole in the Wall," you help a sick Vault kid named Austin by recovering a cure from a secret research facility built into his underground residence's walls.
Long story short, Austin was bitten by one of the mole rats that Vault-Tec scientists were infecting with rare diseases to develop cures.
When you visit the abandoned lab, the place is crawling with these sickly lab rats, and if they bite you, you will secretly receive the Mole-Rat Disease debuff that permanently lowers your HP by 10.
The only way to cure the disease is to use the cure you recover for Austin. However, since the game doesn't even notify you when you're infected and helping the kid feels morally right, it's easy to give up the cure and then be stuck with lower HP forever.
Thanks, game! It would've been nice to know there are stakes like that ahead of time!
