10 True Video Game Endings You Gave Up On
1. Nier: Replicant Ver.1.22474487139... - Ending E
Much like Yoko Taro's perfectly spherical head (look it up), we have come full circle. This list started with Taro's first game, and it finishes with his latest.
As mentioned in the Drakengard entry, Yoko is a big fan of multiple endings and Nier: Replicant contains his most devious yet. A remake of 2010's Nier, Replicant follows the original's story for the most part, right down to its endings. That includes ending D - an ending so climactic that it literally deletes your save file. The exact same thing happens in Replicant, at which point you'd be forgiven for thinking that the story is over.
Yet Taro sneaks in one last twist before the (fifth) end. Replay the game up to a certain point, and the story diverges wildly from previous playthroughs. You take control of a completely different character, one who wants Nier's famously tragic story to end on a happier note, and...
Well, we really don't want to spoil the rest. Nier: Replicant absolutely deserves your attention, and you deserve to go in relatively unspoiled.
Taro knew most people would give up playing Nier after its tragic fourth ending, and that's why he hid Ending E away for the most dedicated to find - to encourage people not to give up, even when literally everything is lost.
