10 True Video Game Endings You Gave Up On
2. Diddy Kong Racing - True Ending
If you're a gamer of a certain age who, the above image may provoke some bad memories. Memories of sitting in front of a CRT screen in a frothing rage, using language you didn't want your parents to hear and almost snapping the prongs off your N64 controller.
Don't let the cutesy graphics fool you - Diddy Kong Racing is a product of the school of game design that equates "ludicrous difficulty" with "value for money". This is best seen in the boss fight illustrated above - a one on one race against the game's antagonist, Wizpig, that demands literal, genuine perfection from the player.
That's not an exaggeration. To beat Wizpig, you have to run three absolutely perfect laps against him, hitting every boost pad on the way. It's a torturously difficult challenge, and one no-one would blame you for giving up on.
And your reward for winning? More tracks to race on, more collectibles to gather, and one more race against the porcine bastard.
Sorry, Diddy Kong Racing. We'd normally appreciate the extra content, but after the trauma of racing Wizpig the absolute last thing we wanted to hear from you was "There's more where that came from!"
