10 Truly Awful Video Game Movies Sonic Might Be Worse Than
4. Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV
Final Fantasy is a brilliant game series, and typically has a compelling (if sometimes confusing) story arc with stunning visuals, but of course the most entertaining part is the gameplay.
So how would you like to sit and watch Final Fantasy, but with none of the actual gameplay?
Not interested? Understandable, but what if the cast was Aaron Paul, Sean Bean and Lena Headey? Because that’s literally all Kingsglaive has going for it.
Certainly, this was enough for some people, with Total Film giving it a perfect 100/100, while claiming that you didn’t need to be Final Fantasy fan to enjoy the movie, as it was so good it spoke for itself.
Other critics though disagreed, leaving Kingsglaive with an overall Metacritic of 35, with the 100 pulled down by The New York Times giving it a dismal 10/100. The narrative is just far too messy, and while some battles are brilliantly tense, others are just a big mess.
It’s certainly beautiful, with Final Fantasy’s distinctive character models and Ready Brek glow on the scenery. Beautiful is a lot more than you can say for Sonic’s janky design too, so at least there’s that.
