10 Uncomfortable Truths Video Games Force You To Confront

7. You Have An Addictive Personality

Gaming is a drug. Good gaming, anyway. There's nothing more enjoyable to me than sitting down with an epic RPG and just rinsing through it over a few days; I recently finished playing through Ni No Kuni, and would I have sunk 50 hours into it over such a compressed period of time (it's been out 2 weeks) unless I had fallen prey to my own addictive personality? Of course, that's a mild form of addiction by most standards; we can all remember the ridiculous news stories of Korean gamers dying in Internet cafes after playing Starcraft for 35 hours straight. The strangest thing of all is that, given how most of these stories pertain to MMORPGs, one has to wonder - why the Hell are they so addictive? After all, how can one be addicted to the repetitive machinery of grinding mobs or resources? It's boring as Hell and surely not worth the meagre rewards it begets? As someone who pumped 150 hours into Star Wars: The Old Republic - a good half of that consisting of grinding - I honestly can't tell you why. I can only tell you I'm an addict.
