10 Unrealistically Hyped Video Games That Inevitably Sucked

3. Dragon Age 2

Another one that suffers from the "over hyped due to a much better prequel" disease, except this one has a much worse strain. Now we come to Dragon Age 2. This one received so much hype for two reasons. It was a next generation Bioware game, and it was the sequel to one of the best RPGs of this generation. When it came to first impressions it seemed quicker in terms of combat, which was a nice change to the first ones outdated combat system which left me alone in combat a lot. The conversation wheel was another simple feature for combat, but left something to be desired when the prequel had what seemed to be more choice. The downgrading of races was a bit of a shock for us too. Seeing as Hawke could only be human, this felt like this wasn't our own adventure with our own character as the previous one was. But that was just the start - upon seeing the hub town of Kirkwall, my heart sank. The very fact that the game had a hub town was bad enough but the copy-pasting of the same dungeons over and over again didn't do the game any credit. To the game's credit though the story they were trying to tell was an expansion of the blatant racism towards mages, which Dragon Age: Origins had set down, and it was nice to see mages in a new light. However, the choices in the game didn't feel like they would affect anything. I'm sure I'm not surprising or spoiling anything for anyone when I say that sh*t goes down between the mages and the templars. Anyone who played the first one knew mages weren't exactly the most trusted thieves at the market. However, despite trying to show the Templars that they were the ones in the wrong and that not all mages do blood magic, this siding with the mage told me that their leader actually did decide to use it. Are you kidding me? I just made the decision to betray my brother, abandon some of my party and go against a higher authority to prove you are right, and now you're just gonna abandon hope? Well for a lack of impact when it came to decisions and huge downsizing on everything from racial choices to locations Dragon Age 2 gets this spot on the list.
