5. Going Out In The Racist City Of New Bordeaux - Mafia 3

A big aspect of this game is the protagonist, Lincoln Clay, and the racial issues he's forced to face. Many other games deal with racism and racist characters, but it's rarely ever "interactive." Any racist NPC or character interaction is typically kept within cutscenes, but Mafia 3 is different in this regard. In Mafia 3, there are actual "black-only" and "white-only" establishments that you can enter. However, you may not be exactly "welcome" in every one of them.

This is definitely not a typical "anticipated" moment by any means, but it is a potentially very powerful and effective one for all players. Cops, as well as pedestrians and other NPC's will berate you and call you offensive names simply because of your character's race, even though you do nothing to deserve it. Cops will give you a hard time if they're patrolling that particular street, and establishment owners will offer up more than just passive aggression after seeing Lincoln in their club.

Now, most players will likely just shoot any of these racists before they get the chance to say anything. However, any issues of race rarely remain relevant outside of a main story, and Mafia 3 seems bound to offer players a more personal way of experiencing these kinds of verbal attacks like never before. It's by no means a "fun" moment to play through, but it IS a potentially emotionally-stimulating one.
