10 Upcoming Games That Have Already Made One HUGE Mistake
9. No Instant Perspective Swap - Resident Evil Requiem
The ninth mainline Resident Evil game, Resident Evil Requiem, certainly seems to be making some exciting choices.
First and foremost, a large amount of the game appears to take place in the post-apocalyptic remnants of Raccoon City, which was famously nuked into oblivion back in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis more than 25 years ago.
Also, after experimenting with a first-person perspective in the last two mainline entries, Requiem will boldly be the first game in the franchise to let players swap between first and third-person perspectives at will.
It's certainly an appealing idea, to give fans the best of both worlds, and though hands-on previews have been largely complimentary so far, there was one common sticking point among them - you have to enter the game's menu to switch perspectives.
It's common for games with multiple perspective options to allow players to hot-swap between them with the mere press of a button, ensuring seamless, continuous play, but unfortunately you'll need to halt the action and do it in the menu.
While it'll by no means break Resident Evil Requiem on its own, it does feel like a clunky, awkward design decision and one that'll get old very fast.
Capcom presumably has technical reasons for doing things this way, but from the impressions we've heard so far it seems like it might be an annoying bugbear in an otherwise terrific game.
