10 Upcoming Games That Have Already Made One HUGE Mistake

2. Not Being Free-To-Play - Marathon

On paper, Bungie producing a reimagining of their classic FPS Marathon should be something to celebrate, though mainstream interest swiftly evaporated when the developer confirmed that the live service extraction shooter wouldn't be free-to-play.

Though pricing hasn't been officially confirmed yet, reports suggested that Sony and Bungie were targeting a $40 launch price - a figure which, for a game with no single-player campaign that will apparently include microtransactions, is mightily offputting.

After all, there are already so many great free-to-play live service shooters out there, so why would most people pay a premium price tag for one that's had "varied" feedback from playtests, according to even Sony themselves?

Granted, this is far from the only gaffe that Marathon has made - there's also the garish art style, that stolen art controversy, and the turnover of key personnel as recently as May, all feeding into the totally unsurprising recent news that the game has been indefinitely delayed.

But in the very least Marathon is a game that folks might've given a chance were it free-to-play with monetisation. As a paid title, though? This thing is pretty much guaranteed to be dead on arrival, no matter how much the delay might improve it.
