The Story: The critically-lauded, hugely-successful series follows lovable rogue Nathan Drake as he scours the globe, hunting for treasure, clashing with villains, and unearthing ancient mysteries.

Why It Could Be Amazing: The games are already incredibly cinematic. To the point where they could probably just be edited down to two hours and recreated with real people for them to be film-ready. The characters are interesting, the settings are unique and the plot is thrilling. It’s basically a modern-day Indiana Jones, so there’s definitely a market for it.

These are all likely the aspects which have drawn in so much talent over the years. Unfortunately, the adaptation that once held loads of promise has seen it’s film stock diminish greatly in the wake of all of their departures. David O. Russell, Neil Burger, and Seth Gordon have all been attached to the Uncharted film at some point, and Mark Wahlberg was rumoured to be close to playing Drake for Russell.

Recently, Zero Dark Thirty writer Mark Boal had been brought onboard to write a draft and while the film is apparently languishing in development hell, we can only hope that he’s still involved in helping it get made.
