10 Upcoming Video Games That Are Already Doomed
5. Everwild
Everwild is the latest action-adventure game from Rare, and was first publicly announced in 2019, after it had already been in some stage of development for five years.
In 2021, insider Jeff Grubb claimed the game was "a real mess" and had been rebooted after the departure of original creative director Simon Woodroffe.
As of 2023, VGC's Andy Robinson revealed that Everwild had been changed from a survival game with god elements into more of a simulation akin to Viva PiƱata.
Though Robinson was optimistic about what he knew of the project and Microsoft are said to be happy with the game internally, Xbox's Phil Spencer recently added only that the game was making "progress."
That doesn't exactly suggest that he can see the light at the end of the tunnel - a maddening stare of affairs for a game that's been in development for 11 years at this point.
But the most distinctly depressing possibility is that Everwild releases within the next year or two and gets solid-to-great reviews, yet per its niche gameplay loop fails to make a splash with players and evaporates from the public consciousness within a matter of weeks.
