10 Upcoming Video Games You Didn't Realise Got Cancelled

9. Tom Clancy's The Division Heartland

Less than two years after Ubisoft pulled the plug on Ghost Recon Frontline, another Tom Clancy property got axed. Though The Division Heartland was conceptualised as a battle royale mode for The Division 2, it was repurposed as a separate entity.

This Division spin-off would've taken a major departure from the previous two instalments, setting the story in the countryside instead of the city. The gameplay would've incorporated survivalist elements, so players had to monitor their hydration levels and equip breathing filters to enter infected areas, where the best valuables resided. The AI became more attentive at night, adding a great sense of paranoia and claustrophobia.

The game would've been broken into two modes, Storm Operations and Excursion Operations. The first mode consisted of up to 45 players, battling against AI hostiles while trying to survive an airborne virus. Excursion had a similar setup, except the team performed missions and collected gear. As a bonus, playing Heartland would unlock rewards in The Division 2.

Though Red Storm Entertainment clearly put in a ton of effort, Heartland didn't come together. After multiple delays, Ubisoft put this spin-off out of its misery in May 2024.

Let's hope The Division 3 doesn't suffer the same fate.
