Although the main threat in Dragon Age: Origins is the darkspawn horde encroaching upon Ferelden, you and your Grey Warden have to fight another foe, too, Loghain.

The traitor who abandoned you and the king during the battle at Ostagar is constantly trying to kill you, but this said, you can actually make him join your merry band of adventureres!

During the Landsmeet, when you expose Loghain for his crimes, you get to pick what kind of punishment he will face for them. The default option is a trial by combat, but Loghain's daughter suggests a different sentence—forcing him to join the Grey Wardens.

Now, having the very same man who tried to kill you as a buddy may not sound like the most logical thing to do, but then again, you are in dire need of more allies and the Joining ritual isn't anything pleasant to go through, either.

If this convinces you to turn Loghain into a Grey Warden, the man will actually become a permanent member of your team, reluctant as he may be.

Just keep in mind that doing so will greatly upset your other Grey Warden friend, Alistair, and he will leave your team afterward.
