9. Conker Was Family-Friendly - Conker's Bad Fur Day
Conker's Bad Fur Day is a funny jab at all the kid-friendly games involving furry protagonists and colorful worlds that were all the rage back in Rareware's golden era.
The game looks cute and fluffy on the outside, but on the inside, it's as vile, bloody, and dark as any proper adult title.Despite this, Conker's cynical approach to kid-friendly content has a twinge of irony about it, as the game's titular protagonist was going to be a PG mascot himself at first.
For all of his snarky attitude towards his world of sunshine and rainbows, Conker was originally designed as a kid-friendly hero of a 3D platformer akin to Banjo-Kazooie, Sly-Cooper, or Donkey Kong. The only reason why Rareware didn't pull through with this plan was because the market at the time was already oversaturated with cute cartoon games targeted at children, and Conker needed something more to stick out from the crowd.
So what did they do to give Conker an edge over his competition? Well, they gave him an actual edge, complete with dark humor, gore, and plenty of allusions to sex, drugs, and violence. Brilliant!
