10 Video Game Companions Everyone Hated At First (But Ended Up Loving)
8. Morte - Planescape: Torment
Morte, the floating skull, is easily the most memorable and beloved character in Planescape: Torment, which is pretty bizarre considering that most people absolutely hate his non-existent guts when they first start the game.
The undead is the very first NPC you meet. He wakes you up in the morgue, tells you that you should find a way out there, and then proceeds to tag along, doing nothing but acting annoying, cracking jokes about your misfortune, and being of no help whatsoever.
When you finally find a way out of the morgue, your first thought is probably to get rid of your talking head buddy the first chance you get, but this said, getting stuck with him leads to the most entertaining banter in the game.
Morte's sharp wit and casual approach to the insanity of the Outlands (he's dead, so why would he care?) make him the most hilarious companion. His witticisms might come off as annoying at first, but as you get acquainted with the game's world, hearing him crack jokes about it is the best feeling ever.
He's a buddy that can make you smile even in the most awful situation. Also, your only buddy without a body!
