10 Video Game Companions Everyone Hated At First (But Ended Up Loving)

7. Sand - Neverwinter Nights 2

With news of Neverwinter Nights 2 finally getting an Enhanced Edition remaster, it seems like an appropriate time to remind ourselves of its brilliant cast of companions.

Including the more hateable ones like Sand, since even the cranky old mage can eventually make you appreciate him tagging along in your adventures.

Sand is a potential recruit that initially acts as a thorn in your side. When you visit your uncle in Neverwinter, Sand, the elven potion-seller and mage, is among the first people to make note of your presence, his shop being located opposite to your uncle's tavern.

His very first interaction with you is insulting your uncle and your team for being a bunch of reckless good-for-nothings. His attitude throughout the game doesn't change much, which is why most people hate having to interact with him early on.

This said, once Sand joins your party, he consistently proves to be an incredibly reliable person, and his grumpy insults begin feeling like signs of him being concerned for the party rather than hating them.

He's like an annoyed uncle that you can always count on, even if he's going to give you plenty of sass for it.
