8. Serana - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Serana, the vampire princess from the Dawnguard DLC, is easily the number-one favorite companion of most Skyrim players. This is because, unlike the other generic followers, Serana comes with a wide range of special interactions with the world and the player.
In fact, these special Serana-related moments even make her feel like the star and protagonist of her DLC, as opposed to you.
You see, Dawnguard's storyline revolves heavily around Serana's ties to a mysterious prophecy about vampires blocking out the sun. This is why most characters involved in the story seem to care more about her than they do about the random hero who helps her stop the prophecy from happening.
Even the DLC's antagonist, spoiler alert, reveals that the prophecy was fabricated by him directly for Serana instead of you, and he disregards you as a background character in the fight proceeding your final showdown with him.
It makes sense, considering you were never a part of his plan, and Serana is the clear focal point of it.
It's honestly kind of refreshing. After saving the world from Alduin, it's nice to not be the most important person in the room.
