As one of the longest running and most successful JRPG franchises of all time, Final Fantasy has had plenty of time and money to get involved in some pretty weird cross-promotions. Moogles playing basketball alongside Mario, Cloud and Aerith in LittleBigPlanet and… a spinoff that features Grammy award nominated pop stars.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is one of Square-Enix’s forays into mobile game territory. To be expected, it features gacha style mechanics as you can acquire Final Fantasy characters from across the ages to use as summons in a series of classic pixel-art style turn-based battles.

The game also features many guest spots for characters from Square’s other properties like Sword of Mana, Bravely Default and Kingdom Hearts. They are also joined by, of all people, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande.

Contributing music to the game, two of the most powerful and richest women in music have also been immortalised alongside Cloud and Sora. Both are described as visiting from a “distant world” and have several different jobs they can take on to give them adaptability in battle, with outfits based on real life looks.

Music stars pairing with video games isn’t unheard of but some of the biggest pop sensations of the Western world appearing in a Japanese role playing mobile game doesn’t compute even if you see it with your own eyes.
