10 Video Game Developers No Longer Making Games For YOU
1. Epic
What They've Done: Unreal, Jazz Jackrabbit, Bulletstorm, Gears of War
What They're Up to Now: Fortnite, mostly. Oh, and the odd Gears sequel now and then, as well as pimping out the Unreal engine.
Epic have been rattling about since the early 90's, with mild success with games like Epic Pinball and Jazz Jackrabbit.
Then came Unreal, and closely followed by Unreal Tournament a year later, which took the PC first person market by storm, rivalling Quake as the competitive FPS leader.
This success led to Unreal engine, a proprietary system owned by Epic, that ended up being licensed out to developers to build their games on. The success of Epic and its engine led to the creation and release of the first Gears of War in 2006, which reinvented the cover shooter and spawned a franchise.
But now? Well, it's Fortnite that lays the proverbial golden eggs.
Yes, that inexplicably popular game for all ages, or kids of a certain age who watch other people play it, is Epic's cash cow at the moment. After eleven seasons, it shows no signs of stopping.
Sadly.
