10 Video Game Developers Who Killed The Franchise They Were Handed

6. Everybody Other Than Insomniac - Spyro The Dragon

Easily one of the most gifted and beloved studios of them all, Insomniac are yet to put a foot wrong (besides Fuse). Spyro is of course what put them on the map, combining a glorious open world with gorgeous animation and a general tonality that was like playing your favourite Pixar movie.

With a solid trilogy under their belt, Insomniac auctioned off Spyro and moved onto Ratchet & Clank. However, the character would then embark on a really bumpy ride of quality, comprising scores of throwaway handheld releases and a Hollywood A list-backed reboot where none other than Elijah Wood was now in the lead role.

Sadly, none of these rekindled that purely playable, Kirby-esque charm of the originals, leaving the purple lizard to be awkwardly crowbarred into the next Skylanders as yet another weird goblin-looking... thing.

Here's to the upcoming Toys for Bob-developed remake to right the ship, because... man.
