10 Video Game Franchises Ruined By Studio Takeovers
3. Metal Gear Solid
As one of the weirdest, most entertaining, and most successful franchises in gaming history, you'd think the Metal Gear franchise would be more or less indestructible.
Then Kojima quit working for Konami, meaning Kojima Productions ceased to work on the series - which was a huge blow given how integral he is to the series, but wasn't a deathblow to the franchise quite yet, so long as Konami themselves could deal with taking over on the development side.
Then Metal Gear Solid Survive happened. Prior to this, even wary fans could have likely been tamed with a good game that provided them a similar experience to what they'd had prior. Safe to say, Metal Gear Solid Survive was not that.
It was a co-op zombie game with crafting mechanics, which (surprise, surprise) involved microtransactions and couldn't be played offline. In short, it was nothing like the previous games in the series, and came at a time when it needed to be at least somewhat similar in order to rest pre-existing doubts.
Instead, it was dunked on by most of the gaming community. While we can live in hope the future might see more enjoyable Metal Gear games, all evidence currently suggests otherwise.
