Every gamer over a certain age can fondly recall getting to play Oregon Trail in school at some point. That shared memory is a great example of the benefit of good educational games. They proved their usefulness in deceptively educating a generation of youngsters. Typing simulators, math blasters, and interactive life-simulators all proved to be a valuable tool in teaching children and actively participating in creating a fun learning experience. With more and more schooling shifting to online and out of class learning these days, the time seems right to bring back this seemingly long-forgotten genre.

Nintendo seems to have taken a lead in this genre, with more and more games being created for the Switch with the specific intention of educating young minds. Games like Trancelation, Mathland, and Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training all garnered praise, and are available and popular amongst parents who find their kids at home a bit more than usual these days.
