10 Video Game Heroes Forced To Die For The Greater Good
2. Player/Alistair - Dragon Age: Origins
Dragon Age is a game all about choices, and not one of those games that offers false choices that don't actually alter the game's end events, either.
Dragon Age: Origins puts you in the shoes of the soon-to-be latest recruit into the fabled Grey Warden order. Formed centuries ago, it is up to the Grey Wardens to fight the Blight - a legion of horrifying monsters that ascend from deep underground to destroy the world - and slay the Archdemon that rules them.
After a betrayal at the Battle of Ostagar by Teyrn Loghain, the player and Alistair are the final two remaining Grey Wardens in the land. They must begin rebuilding their armies, turning to the elves, the dwarves, the circle of Magi and the Arl of Redcliffe, requisitioning soldiers for the ongoing war.
It is revealed that, to defeat the Archdemon, a Grey Warden would need to sacrifice themselves by essentially absorbing its soul.
Depending on the choices you have made, it may be go down to either you or Alistair to offer yourselves for the sacrifice.
Of course, there are ways of avoiding this fate, as is BioWare's signature game design, but choose wrong and it's so long to one of the two Grey Wardens left in the entire kingdom of Ferelden.
