10 Video Game Heroes Having The WORST Day

8. Enslaved: Odyssey To The West

Enslaved Odyssey To The West Monkey Trip
Ninja Theory

Being enslaved must be the pits. Forced to do someone else's bidding, lest ye be punished, would be a fate worse than death for most.

So imagine how poor Monkey feels when he evades one possible lifetime of this, only to end up in another potential life of it instead.

Our reluctant hero starts the game evading capture by the world-dominating evil robot forces, almost makes good on his escape from their slave transport... only to wind up the unlikely companion of a lady named Trip, who's trying to save her village.

It's not like she even asks, either. Just straps an explosive headband to him and forces his help under threat of explosive decapitation if he objects or tries to leg it.

Fortunately, Monkey keeps his dome intact by reluctantly helping Tripitaki, as the "modernised" retelling of the Chinese fable plays out.

But for those few first hours, the tension is definitely there, and not just in terms of the constraints of the incendiary hairpiece. Maybe being hooked up to the hivemind computer would have been less of a bad day...
