2. Cortex’s Mother The Stripper - Crash Twinsanity
Crash Twinsanity was a departure from Crash’s usual tone, and started them on a rocky road that led the Bandicoot into obscurity. Following astronomical sales of the N. Sane Trilogy and a remaster of Crash Team Racing on the horizon, it seems like the marsupial is back from the brink.
While Twinsanity can be viewed as the beginning of the decline, in isolation it’s a decent enough game with a unique sense of humour. It feels a bit like Jak & Daxter were put in a blender with Ed, Edd n Eddy, with Ratchet & Clank sprinkled in and a dash of Spongebob to top it off. Some of the jokes flopped hard, but the ones that landed were surprisingly good for a series with a usually silent protagonist.
The best and by far most adult gag though concerns Cortex’s mother. During one cutscene, he rolls through a strip club, apologising to the ladies he bumps into. Though the camera pans up to the sign rather than follow him inside, it’s an adult enough joke to land on this list anyway. The thing which kicks it up to second though is Cortex’s surprised ‘Mother?!’ when he realises mommy dearest is dancing there.
