3. Electrokinetic Abilities - Bioshock Infinite

After Bioshock 2 failed to match its predecessor, the developers went the extra mile to ensure they didn't make the same mistakes for the follow-up, BioShock Infinite.

Now, when it comes to crafting a masterpiece, one aspect of the development is knowing what content to stick with and what content to discard. Even though Bioshock Infinite had enough material to fill five or six games, the developers cleaved the flab, so they could focus on the essentials.

Although this procedure is annoying, it comes with the territory. Virtually every great game has had tons of content left on the cutting room floor.

However, it becomes a problem when the removed material was featured in the promotions. The trailers for BioShock Infinite showed Booker DeWitt use telekinesis to shoot an enemy's levitating gun, and Elizabeth creating an electric storm, neither of which appear in the finished product. The teasers also depicted Elizabeth creating enormous and elaborate Tears. But in the final version, these Tears were drastically simplified.

Basically, it was better to go in blind, since the trailers for BioShock Infinite promised the players an experience that had little resemblance to the game itself.
