10 Video Game Moments We Were All Waiting For (That Didn't Happen)

4. Wait, There's No Blood? - Mortal Kombat (SNES Version)

Mortal Kombat instantly stood out for its digitised sprites, fluid controls, iconic characters, and.... oh, who am I kidding? When it comes to MK, it's all about decapitating, disemboweling, and vivisecting your opponent! Even though Mortal Kombat is a solid fighting game, it wouldn't have had the same level of success if it wasn't for the blood-spewing violence and controversial finishing moves.

So when the arcade title finally made its way to home consoles, gamers were pumped to pummel their friends to a bloody pulp (in the game, I mean).

Sadly, anyone who purchased the SNES version noticed a serious issue. After playing for a few seconds, everyone had the same question, "Where's the blood?"

Due to Nintendo's family-friendly policy, the company decided to replace the blood in Mortal Kombat with sweat. To add insult to injury, the Fatalities were heavily toned down. Sub-Zero's iconic spine-rip finisher was completely absent from the SNES port.

Unsurprisingly, gamers were furious about the lack of bloodshed and entrails since that's the main reason they bought the frickin' game in the first place!

Because Sega didn't censor the Mega Drive's version of Mortal Kombat, it was no surprise when it sold quadruple the amount as the SNES port.

The moral of the story is simple - give the fans what they want.
