10 Video Game Openings That Pissed Everyone Off

4. Link The Farm Boy - The Legend Of Zelda: The Twilight Princess

Every Zelda game has it's fans and its detracts and the 2006 GameCube and Wii adventure Twilight Princess is no different. Whatever your opinion on the package as a whole, the game’s opening act is something we can all get behind as a big point of frustration.

What made Twilight Princess different to your previous Zelda fare was a bigger emphasis on Link’s community and his place within it. Previous games had shown us where Link resided before he was to be swept away by his quest, but Twilight Princess really wanted us to live it.

It’s one thing to have a long and involved adventure, but you don’t get there by slowing everything down to a crawl.

The first couple of hours of Twilight Princess, way before Link gets his hands on the classic green tunic, quite literally consist of herding farm animals and play fighting with children. Whilst the intention was to portray Link as just any normal young man, it was hardly the reason players buy The Legend of Zelda games in the first place.

When the game does finally start, Link is transformed into his brand new wolf form so it’s not really until after this that it really starts to feel like a Zelda game. Still, this section is at least better than being asked to quite literally catch a fish for a neighbourhood cat.
