10 Video Game Plots Nobody Fully Understands

5. Final Fantasy XIII (And Its Sequels)

It€™'s a given that Final Fantasy games have grand and elaborate storylines €“ that€™s what sets them apart from other games in the genre. However, Final Fantasy XIII and its sequels really do take the cake in this department.

Throwing you in at the deep end right from the get-go, XIII immediately starts spewing out lore terms (Fal€™Cie, anyone?) in abundance, so anybody that€™s even slightly unfamiliar with the universe needs to start learning a new language before they can begin to understand the significance of anything that€™s happening. Even when things do start happening, nothing becomes any clearer, as Eidolons (whatever they are) and allies come and go - and so do realities - because of course there€™s a bunch of time-travel and dimension-hopping involved later to confuse matters further, or it just wouldn€™t be as fun otherwise.

There€™s just so much to take in, and everything is linked intricately together (or at least it seems to be, it'€™s difficult to tell) €“it€™'s actually quite a daunting prospect to be able to figure it all out by yourself. The Final Fantasy XIII games are probably the most difficult to understand in the series, and that is saying a lot coming from a collection that contains Final Fantasy VII.
