10 Video Game Protagonists Who Were Doomed From The Start

9. Tommy Angelo - Mafia

Persona 3
2K

Mafia narratives rarely end well. It goes with the genre. So it's no shock that Tommy Angelo of the original Mafia game meets with a rather unfortunate end.

Tommy spends years throughout the game helping his boss, Salieri, get to the top of the underworld's food chain. Only for his reward at the end to be one best buddy dead, the other responsible, and him about to be given a new pair of cement shoes. Well, actually, they try to kill him in an art gallery - it's more symbolic that way - but you get the idea.

At the end, Tommy puts down Sam and strikes a deal with the cops to get his family new identities - the catch being that he has to testify in court to make sure Salieri goes down.

The epilogue takes us years into the future, where an older Tommy is hunted down by Vito, the protagonist of Mafia II, and swiftly assassinated. Tommy, knowing the score and how it was always going to end, greets the shotgun barrel with a contented smile.
