10 Video Game Reboots You Didn't Know Were Happening
1. Kingdom Hearts
And finally we have Kingdom Hearts.
Now to be clear, Square Enix's next entry into the beloved Disney-themed RPG franchise isn't a full-on hard reboot, but director Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that Kingdom Hearts IV will mark a "reset" for the franchise's story.
Appreciating how infamously convoluted Kingdom Hearts' narrative and overall lore has become, Nomura decided to develop the new game as an entry point for new fans, to the extent that he even recruited writers who've never worked on a Kingdom Hearts game before.
Nomura added that the intent was always for Kingdom Hearts III to serve as an ending to the O.G. trilogy, and IV will press the reset button to onboard a whole new generation of fans, albeit while retaining the same main characters and general tone.
Considering that, including all the spin-offs, there are now over a dozen Kingdom Hearts games and keeping track of everything is basically a second job, a soft reboot is hardly the worst idea in the world.
