10 Video Game Reboots You Didn't Know Were Happening

2. Streets of Rage

The side-scrolling beat 'em up franchise Streets of Rage was enormously popular throughout the early 1990s, after which the IP went dormant for more than 25 years.

Streets of Rage 4 was finally released in 2020 and both critically and commercially successful, making it clear to Sega that there was still life left in the ol' dog yet.

But rather than simply press on with Streets of Rage 5, at the 2023 Game Awards they instead announced a 3D reinvention of the series, later revealed to be titled Streets of Rage: Revolution.

The reveal, jam-packed into a sizzle reel with the aforementioned reboots of Golden Axe and Jet Set Radio, was so unceremonious that nobody could be blamed for missing it.

And almost two years on from its reveal, we still don't know a whole lot about the game.

The shift to 3D is certainly a bold move, especially as Streets of Rage 4 was so well received in 2D, and so it remains to be seen if this dice roll will actually pay off.
