10 Video Game Reveal Trailers Better Than The Final Release
4. Duke Nukem Forever
Although Duke Nukem Forever was technically revealed multiple times during its long stint in development hell, when it finally reemerged shortly before its release, this time with a new developer in Gearbox Software and a new announcement trailer, the wait almost seemed worth it.
Sure, the graphics looked a little rough around the edges, but that was to be expected from a game that had been gestating for so long, and the trailer ultimately delivered in giving the fans what they wanted: pure, unfiltered Duke.
Capturing the hero in all of his cheesy glory, the reveal emanated with the take-no-prisoners spirit of the franchise, absolutely nailing the juvenile humour that everybody loved about the series. Between Duke punching aliens in the nuts to the sweary and hilarious title cards that punctuated the gameplay, everything seemed to be in order to set up the character's grand return to gaming.
Of course, not only was the final release a complete disaster, but it somehow turned Duke Nukem himself into an embarrassing old man who's jokes constantly missed the mark. While the reveal trailer effortlessly captured the character's signature attitude, the game tried too hard and didn't come close, which turned an already terrible shooter into an downright abysmal one.
