10 Video Game Reveal Trailers Better Than The Final Release
3. Destiny
By now it's common knowledge that a troubled production resulted in the original Destiny being nothing like what developers at Bungie originally intended. Struggling to reconcile the title's MMO inspirations with a straight-forward story, the eventual release failed to live up to the promise of either genre, despite the systems that were intended to synergise the two styles of play being shown off in trailers leading up to the shooter's release.
In fact, the first big look players got at Destiny put the focus on a dynamic world where teaming up with other players was seamless. Not only was the cooperative play a more natural and organic part of the world, but the actual map itself was teased as being much bigger than the one fans eventually got, with the developers pointing towards vistas and letting players know they could venture there if they wanted to (which, of course, they couldn't).
The scale of the game was much grander than the one that eventually released, but it's the integration of the social elements that the final product missed the most, as the way they worked in this first trailer really sold the game as a true shared-world experience.
