2. Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time - Dampe’s Grave
Ocarina Of Time was a reinvention for the Legend of Zelda
franchise. Marking its transition to the 3D-era on N64, it employed the use of
time travel mechanics, as Link is not deemed not ready to wield the Master
Sword whilst still a child.
Upon waking up in the future, Link is greeted by one of the
six sages, Rauru, informing him he must find the other sages in order to stop Ganon,
who’s now taken Hyrule Castle. Your first stop takes Link to the Forest Temple
but before you can advance, players must detour to Kakariko Village’s Graveyard
and obtain a hookshot.
How is this achieved? By exploring the grave of Dampé, the
former gravekeeper who sadly passes away during the 7 year gap. Upon arrival, you’ll
get challenged by his ghost to a race but if you take a wrong turn, you’ll soon
regret it.
Like a number of future Hyrule’s more desolate regions, his grave also contain one of Zelda’s most terrifying monsters, ReDead. Upon seeing you, these frightening creatures release a blood curdling shriek and Link freezes up, temporarily paralysed by fear.
You can’t win this race but Dampe still gives you his Hookshot
regardless. This is hardly the place to discuss the ethics of grave exploration
but at least he gave Link permission.
