10 Video Game Sequels That DESTROY What Went Before
5. Assassin's Creed 2
Considering the VERY different beast that Assassin's Creed has become in recent years, going back to the original games feels odd. Not a bad odd, to be sure, but still odd. Especially if you go all the way back to the original. The first Assassin's Creed, while an excellent idea for a franchise, was still incredibly clunky in multiple places, with lackluster combat, a protagonist who wasn't exactly likaeble, and missions that had a little too much busywork attached to them.
All of which were hammered out in the sequel.
When you compare the two directly to each other, it becomes astounding how much of an improvement it is. Combat is faster and snappier, but still has that tactical edge to keep things interesting, assassinations are far more creative, with the game giving you dozens of different means of eliminating your targets. Also, Ezio is one of the greatest video game protagonists ever.
The final five of this list are games that are such improvements on the original the name is practically the only thing they have in common, and this is a great first showcase of that phenomenon.
