10 Video Game Villains We WANTED To Win
6. Ganondorf - The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda's evergreen antagonist Ganondorf is still a card-carrying baddie at the best of times, but in Wind Waker, he was far more nuanced and even sympathetic than he's ever been.
Throughout the Zelda games, Ganon has characteristically been a one-dimensional, mustache-twirling antagonist hell-bent on conquering Hyrule just because.
But The Wind Waker sought to lend some much-needed shade to the character through his periodic interactions with Link, where he explains that his plan wasn't motivated by sheer maniacal self-interest, but to restore fertility to his desolate land.
Hell, he even flatly explains that he doesn't want to kill Link or Zelda, and his poetic, sorrowful monologues in the game ultimately transform him into a more compellingly weary, tormented character.
That's not to say that Ganon in The Wind Waker is good, because he isn't, but given the well-trod formula of the Zelda games, it actually would've been pretty interesting to see him finally score a decisive win over Link, especially with motives this relatable.
