10 Video Games Changed After Real-World Events
1. Numerous Titles - COVID-19 Chaos
I mean, what else was going to be number one?
Despite the videogame industry being slightly more hardy and resilient than other sectors (because, let's face it, we all over-indulged in a wee four-hundred-and-twenty-six round binge of Halo over lockdown), it was hit by a swathe of game and event cancellations, delays, and even studio closures thanks to the coronavirus. It seems that wee infectious jobby isn't a fan of interactive media.
Tokyo Games Show, Gamescom, PAX and Blizzcon were amongst the events COVID saw removed from activity, and games like Outer Worlds, TrackMania, Death Stranding, The Last Of Us Part 2, and Halo Infinite were delayed significantly. Deliver Us The Moon for Nintendo Switch and Minecraft Earth were cancelled outright, and Rainbow Six Quarantine had its name changed to Rainbow Six Extraction.
CEX even shut down all of its corporate stores indefinitely (oh no, now where will businesses buy a preowned copy of True Romance on VHS for £45?!)
It wasn't all bad though - two games in particular saw a huge boost in sales... Ring Fit Adventure and Plague Inc.
And I think it's safe to say the mystery of why remains... forever unsolved.
