10 Video Games MUCH Better Than We Thought They'd Be

8. Persona 5 Royal

For those wondering why Persona 5 Royal is on here, we of course knew this one was going to be good. Persona 5 vanilla is fantastic. But could it possibly be good enough to justify playing through a 100 hour game with largely the exact same content all over again?

Turns out, yes. Absolutely.

Royal may only technically include one extra semester of new content which totals around 15 to 20 hours, but almost every aspect of the game is updated in some way. The gameplay is levelled up with a variety of quality of life enhancements ranging from improvements to the turn-based combat system to more streamlined dungeon layouts. Additionally, the two new characters who come into full bloom in the game’s final dungeon are weaved through the rest of the story in a seamless and affecting way that ensures they never feel like an unnatural tack-on to an existing game.

In every way, Royal exceeds the successes of Persona 5 which is really saying something given the original was already a slam dunk.

Having said that, it’s a big ask for people to pay full price for a game they’ve mostly already played but if Atlus were going to go ahead and ask that of players then the game needed to be this good and, luckily, it is.
