When you're remastering such a beloved IP as Halo, you need to get it right.

This task fell upon developers 343 Industries, who took over the reigns of the Halo franchise once creators Bungie departed to work on Destiny. Unfortunately they failed to get it right; the version of Halo: The Master Chief Collection that first released was a technical mess, with broken multiplayer matchmaking (a core component of Halo) and countless audio and visual glitches across the board too.

The problems with matchmaking were the major bugbear of players. They were forced into extremely long queues, waiting to join a game, only for it to fail time and time again.

343 Industries had to apologise for the state the game was in, and Microsoft also tried to smooth things over by gifting people affected by the problems a free month of Xbox Live Gold, a unique avatar and nameplate, and a free copy of the Halo 3: ODST campaign to those who played the game between its launch and December 19, 2014.

Since it's initial release, 343 has pumped out several bug fixes to the game and managed to get it in the state it should have been in the first place. Nowadays it's one of the best ways to re-experience the original Halo titles; a far cry from the state it was initially released in.
