10 Video Games Ruined By Excessive Grinding
1. Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
Ni No Kuni II is one of the most disappointing video game sequels of recent years, taking the charm of the original and spinning it into an oddly soulless, unpolished follow-up which, with its lack of cutscenes and significant voice acting, clearly cut a ton of corners.
But the critical path is for the most part an easy sprint to the finish line, at least until the game throws up a couple of arbitrary brick walls to progress simply to pad out its length.
At a few points, you'll be forced to embark on a series of "side quests" to recruit villagers to your kingdom and cannot continue with the main story until you've completed a sufficient number of them.
This quite literally grinds the game to a halt, because while the recruitment missions aren't remotely difficult, they're largely generic, dull fetch quests which are a huge chore to get through.
It might be enough to turn some players off entirely, honestly, because these missions simply clarify how little respect the game has for your time. When there are so many genuinely great games to play, why waste hours putting in genuine work?
