10 Video Games So Great They Ruined The Series

3. Far Cry 3

I'm apparently one of the few who thinks that Far Cry 2 was a great entry for the series with a ton of awesome ideas (if you like the idea of getting malaria, a jammed gun in a firefight, and a physical in-game map that you could read while driving a car).

But when Far Cry 3 came along with its vivid colours, psychedelic drugs and charming psychopathic villain Vaas, it was easy to forget about what came before. The game set a great precedent for subsequent outings, which has been followed a little too closely by Far Cry 4 and Primal to keep things from getting a little stale.

Your journey in Far Cry 3 from annoying backpacker bro to lethal-weapon tribal hero was a satisfying one, and moves like the chain stealth-kill and Death From Above assassinations felt like a refreshing breeze in the FPS genre.

Fun though its successors are, they've done little to evolve 3's move-set, stories and repetitive base-capturing gameplay. And who can match Vaas for sheer charming villainy?
