2. Full Cross-Play - Rocket League

No game perfectly provokes the 'one more game' mentality quite like Rocket League. Crammed into short, 5 minute matches is intense, competitive sports action as you pilot a rocket-propelled RC car tasked with securing victory over the opposing team in the epic sport of car football.

Rocket League hit virtual stores in a slow summer for games. The simple gameplay was easy for newcomers to pick-up and enjoy, but devilishly hard to master, and after an astonishing reception from those who took a chance on the title (amassing 5 million downloads in its first month alone), it was both a critical and commercial hit.

It wasn't long before we were all clamouring to play. Naturally, the desire to play alongside friends was overwhelming, so the need for a cross-play feature between systems was in high demand.

It was Sony's refusal to play ball (excuse the pun), however, that saw complications to the addition of full cross-play between platforms, resulting their exclusion from the festivities. This was thankfully remedied in the first month of 2019, a mere 3.5 years later, meaning PlayStation wielders could join the fun and compete with their PC, XBOX and Switch adversaries.
