10 Video Games That Are Already In The Running For Game Of The Year 2017
6. NieR: Automata
Initially released in February in Japan for the PlayStation 4, western gamers got their chance to play it just a few weeks after, and now understood why it got such rave reviews overseas. Developed by the talented folks at PlatinumGames (Bayonetta, Vanquish), NieR: Automata is an action-RPG which is a sequel to 2010's Nier, which itself is a spinoff of the Drakengard RPG series.
Not falling to conventional JRPG tropes, NieR: Automata was surprisingly deep, had amazing music, and an engaging combat system. Set in the year 11945, you play as android No. 2 Model B or "2B," and take part in the great war between humans and machines. It's certainly a compelling story, though one that's not as clear-cut as most fans would hope.
