10 Video Games That Got EVERYTHING Wrong

1. Battlefield 2042

Battlefield simply wouldn't be Battlefield without a rough launch, and though most of the games have suffered through netcode hiccups during their release windows, the gunplay still felt fundamentally good for the most part.

Except with the most recent entry into the series, Battlefield 2042, which in addition to its bevy of other problems didn't actually work as a basically functional FPS.

Angered by the excessive number of bugs, baffling lack of content, wonky progression system, lack of a single-player campaign, and lousy cosmetics, fans soon enough started a petition demanding a refund from EA - which to date has over 230,000 signatures.

Between all this and excessive weapon bloom making gunplay frustrating and unsatisfying, a mass exodus of players quickly began. Barely a month after the game's release, its concurrent player count on Steam was overtaken by 2018's Battlefield V.

EA's response to the matter didn't help, either: they called players' expectations "brutal," and things got heated enough that the game's subreddit was almost shut down.

Though Battlefield 2042 is in somewhat better shape as of the 4.00 patch this past April, there's still the consensus among most that the game is largely a lost cause - too much damage has been done, and disgruntled players have moved on to other things.

Amid disappointing sales, EA blamed both the impact of the pandemic and, hilariously, the smooth surprise launch of Halo Infinite's multiplayer mode just four days before Battlefield 2042.

All in all, it's a festival of mistakes, from the game's overall design philosophy to their PR strategy for interacting with understandably upset customers. Do better next time, EA.
