10 Video Games That Got Terrible Reviews But Were Actually Great
4. Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex
Crash Bandicoot has seen a strong revival in the last few years, receiving remakes of both the original PS1 Trilogy in 2017 and Crash Team Racing last year, meaning it’s never been a better time to be a fan of the Bandicoot. This wasn’t always the case however and where the original games saw critical acclaim, his transition to the sixth console generation was not as welcomed.
The fourth main installment of the series, Wrath of Cortex saw Uka Uka and Dr Cortex working to power up a new superweapon by awakening the Elementals, a rogue group of masks which hold power over earth, water, fire and air. Facing a series of disasters across the Earth, Aku Aku and Crash then set out to imprison the Elementals once more.
Critics took issue with Wrath of Cortex for lack of innovation, believing it made little change upon the original titles and repeated the same platforming mechanics as its predecessors. This is certainly no bad thing though, providing same enjoyment as the originals and it makes a great platforming adventure. If you’ve played the remakes and are patiently awaiting the next entry, Wrath of Cortex certainly fits the bill.
