10 Video Games That Got Terrible Reviews But Were Actually Great
5. Beyond Two Souls
David Cage has made a name for himself through his studio Quantic Dream. Known for titles that promote interactive storytelling and their use of motion capture, Beyond Two Souls initially released for PS3 in 2013 as their next game following on from Heavy Rain, this time starring Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe.
Story revolves around Jodie Holmes (Ellen Page), who possesses supernatural powers such as mind possession through her link to a separate soul, Aiden. After a childhood incident nearly killed a neighbouring child, Jodie is then left in the care of Nathan Dawkins (Willem Dafoe), a researcher in the United States Department of Paranormal Activity that becomes a father figure to her.
Like most other games here, it released to mixed reviews, with frequent criticism aimed towards its story and perceived issues with its interactivity. It’s clear though that a lot of attention was put towards the motion capture elements, proving to be one of the PS3’s most graphically stunning adventures, backed up by Willem Dafoe and Ellen Page providing fantastic performances in their roles and with a wide slate of potential endings, it’s one that kept our interest.
